PETER
DALTON
Peter Dalton brings to the practice four decades
of architectural experience and creativity and three
decades of sociological insights into the relationship
between the built environment and the way in which
people use buildings.
An honours graduate in Architecture from the University
of NSW in 1964, he gained a Masters
Degree in Sociology as a Fulbright Scholar from
Rutgers University, USA in 1970. He commenced the
practice Peter Dalton Architects in 1974.
He is a registered Architect in New South Wales,
a member of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects
and the Housing Industry Association where he has
been a Councillor of the NSW Division and Chairman
of the Divisions Medium Density Housing Committee.
Peter Dalton Architects is a member of the Retirement
Village Association and the Aged & Community
Services Association of NSW & ACT.
He has designed award-winning housing and carried
out ground-breaking research in resident needs and
expectations for multi-unit and retirement housing
and care services for older people.
As an expert on consumer expectations of housing
design, and the author of the national award-winning
Buy or Build Australias Consumer Guide
to Housing, he has spoken at many conferences on
how to produce housing in which people really
want to live.
Representing the Housing Industry Association, he
has contributed to the development of Commonwealth
and New South Wales Government housing policy and
programs.
His work in the design for improved access for people
with disabilities contributed to the development
of the New South Wales subsidized taxi scheme for
the disabled which was a world first when introduced
in 1981.
He brings to the practice a wealth of experience
in ensuring clients achieve their desired building
outcomes in buildings that will stand the test of
